There is not a single report in the scientific literature that shows obstetricians to be safer than midwives for low-risk or normal pregnancy and birth. So if you are among the more than 75 percent of all women with a normal pregnancy, the safest birth attendant for you is not a doctor but a midwife.

At Partera Midwifery...
It is our goal to be respectful, supportive, gentle guardians of natural birth. Birth is a physiological event; but it is also mental, emotional and spiritual. To support each stage of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, all aspects of the family’s well-being must be nurtured and respected. As any home birth midwife will attest to, emotional factors play an important role in how labor and birth progress.
It is our experience that clients benefit more from individualized and personalized care, as opposed to care that gives out routine instructions to all clients. It is our goal to help each family uncover how they wish to carry out their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period by providing information that is honest and non-coercive, and by supporting the family as a whole.
Our belief is that for the vast majority of clients, the best way to support the birthing process is to allow labor to unfold uninterrupted, without interfering or “coaching.” The more we meddle with the intricacies of labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum, the more problems we are likely to cause. At Partera Midwifery, we believe in the power of the midwife as a loving presence, who provides guidance as needed and safeguards the health and well-being of mother, baby, and family.
