Welcome to Partera Midwifery
Meet the Apprentice Midwifes
My name is Briana Wilborn and I am a caregiver, doula, and student midwife. My birthwork journey began as a young person. I have always been someone to confide in, someone folks leaned on when they needed it most. During my undergraduate career at UC Berkeley, I was drawn to facilitation. I worked as part of a team running a course called Female Sexuality which created curriculum to educate our peers on reproductive health and understand reproductive justice. I developed a passion for supporting folks in their own empowerment journeys. Later, a partner introduced me to doula work and I felt I had found a beautiful, meaningful way to find purpose in alignment with my strengths.
I have served as a doula, accruing over 250 hours of training over 5 years and serving 30+ clients. At the beginning of 2017 I felt called to deepen my knowledge of birth and pursue Licensed Midwifery. I spent my first 6 months at a birth center learning much of the basic skills of midwifery. I felt called to a home birth practice with Partera Midwifery where I could work with and serve my queer communities of color. I continue to be humbled by the power and mystery of birth, and feel so honored to be part of a team that supports birth as a ceremony. I am proud to stand with Andrea and Sumi to celebrate your journey.
Greetings, My name is Sumayyah Franklin and I am an advanced apprentice midwife at Partera Midwifery. Since a young person I knew I was called to serve my community as a midwife. I believe that every family deserves loving compassionate care by a provider who is thoroughly competent. As an apprentice midwife I have attended over 300 births. I began studying midwifery while studying abroad in Ghana, west Africa. Once I returned to the US in 2014 I primarily focused on home birth midwifery at Partera Midwifery. Most recently I went to Uganda, east Africa to further my studies in midwifery at a high volume birth center. While there I gain many skills. I feel confident in my ability to serve, yet humble and open as a student of midwifery.
I offer loving compassionate care that is evidence based and intuitive. I believe that every person deserves support as they see fit during their journey into parenthood. It has been such a blessing to serve my community under the preceptorship and guidance of Andrea. I would be honored to serve you!
